Dr. Plendl has over 40 years of experience in basic and applied nuclear physics at university
and government laboratories in the United States, Switzerland and Germany. His current
research is focused on the disposition of long-lived nuclear waste materials.
Dr. Plendl provides technical support for the joint environmental restoration and nuclear
waste management activities of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Russian Ministry of
Atomic Energy (JCCEM Program). He also coordinates technical publication activities of the
IICER and is involved in the planning of seminars, symposia and workshops. He received
his Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics from Yale University and is Professor Emeritus in the
Physics Department at Florida State University.
